I am Lara
I’ve always been a dreamer. Nothing was as interesting as the view out of the window when you were sitting in math class. My colorful thoughts probably determined very early on where the journey should go.
Photography came to me a little later. My mom took a lot of photos, for which I am very grateful, because the box with my childhood photos is infinitely valuable. I remember the simple black camera that was always and everywhere with me; how the films were changed and the rolls were then given away in small plastic cans. When you picked it up, you pecked curiously into the envelope.
When I was in school, I wished for a Polaroid camera. It was very simple, produced strong-smelling instant photos to stick in poetry albums, and served its purpose.
The next camera I can remember was my first digital one: the Sony Cybershot with 3.2 megapixels. An absolute revolution. I stuck to the tiny display and primarily documented our vacations in Tunisia, where the camera had to cope with sand, salt water and, above all, my thirst for adventure. Below are a few works from 2005, which I was shocked to find when I searched the hotel on Google. The Internet loses nothing & never forgets!
A few years followed that were probably more driven by hormones than photography; although this was the time when self-portraits were first experimented with.
My first SLR camera was the Canon 1000D. With her I mainly documented animals & nature; I didn’t want to have anything to do with people in front of the camera at first. One day I would become the “Star of National Geographic”; that’s what I thought.
Things turned out a little differently than expected: After several years in the catering industry, I dared to change industries to pursue my true passion of photography, which had grown quietly in the background.
And now? Well, I’m now a freelance photographer with my first small studio and I occasionally ask myself if I’m just daydreaming again.
